Then, under Snap type, choose Isometric Snap. To get into the Isometric drawing mode, hover the mouse over the Snap Mode button at the bottom left of the screen, right-click, and choose Settings. For drawing, what some call, “fake-3D” isometric drawings. F5 – Toggles Isoplane between Top/Right/Left.F4 – Toggles 3D Osnap on and off and is affected in the same way as F3.Use this key to specifically turn it on when needed and off when it might cause miss-snaps. Snap often snaps to an object that you did not intend to, which is a real a time-waster that can really add up if it happens repeatedly. F3 – Toggles the Osnap tool on and off.This is useful when the Command Line is too small to see what you are interested in.
F2 – Opens the AutoCAD text window, which shows an extended view of the Command Line entries.I have seen a radical solution on an ACAD forum suggesting popping the key out of the keyboard to avoid hitting it by mistake. F1 – Opens the AutoCAD Help window in slow motion … it can be a nuisance though, as it is right next to the Escape key that is on hand to get out of a ‘sticky’ command such as the Line tool, and is all too easily hit.

Selecting any one of these keys is a short cut to a particular AutoCAD command, and these have been around from the early DOS versions of AutoCAD right up to the latest version of ACAD 2015 running in windows 8. Well they are the 12 keys at the top of your keyboard marked F1 to F12 :
So for this week’s post I thought it was worth revisiting what the keys actually do. With the holiday weekend approaching I looked at my keyboard and thought about the AutoCAD function keys, which have been there since the very early versions.
